On the internet is enough to obtain information about setting up a foundation, but often this is done for example as a disguised advertisement for the CBF or a notary. Therefore you will find here just about our own discretion.
Why start a Charity?
Of dissatisfaction with the high salaries of the larger organizations? Or bow suspicions?
Often people on vacation or has worked in a country where they have seen people living in terrible conditions.
Sometimes, the idea that one wants to start a charity and want to do something about this situation. There are fundraisers held and the money is used for example to help people with buying school books, clothes or clean drinking water. Over time, an action are so extensive, that a charitable foundation or organization wishes to create.
First you should know that our country already rich in many registered charities. There are over 30,000 registered charities, but it is unclear how many are actually active. This example has to do with the fact that a foundation is not required to hand in his annual report. Some 16,000 of these charities and / or foundation has registered with the tax as ANBI (General Benefit Institution).
The numbers may differ slightly, the legislation has been tightened.
The chance is there that an organization already active in that area and the area where you want to assist. Advisable to check first just to look at, it can be a lot of time and money.
If you still have decided to start something yourself then there are some things that need to be. This is the order in which the most simple;
- Make up a convenient name. (Do not underestimate this, professional help is advised!)
- Association with a notary
- Register at the Chamber of Commerce
- If applicable to the Tax and VAT exemption and / or status requests ANBI
A foundation can a person may be created by more people. This setting must be by notarial deed. This can either be an act which direct a foundation is created or a will in which the foundation arises only after death of the deceased.
The cost for such a deed, or what we use the "foundation of our statutes" vary enormously from one call, but it should be about 300 euros. Make an appointment with a notary and discuss with them the set. They make the statutes in order and make an appointment when they are ready. They know what matters to a charity foundation in statutes should be addressed.
Registering with the Chamber of Commerce is basically free. Here in fact the statute requires.
Then it's important that when you have started a charity that has no profit, just as you do at the request load and prevents you must pay VAT. Keep in mind that you are such a lot of things are not going to "sell" an online shop or the other, otherwise this could be a problem with the tax that would disagree with a tax exemption.
Now is just the beginning!
Had you thought about the following:
- Website ( This company is very good and will sometimes (partly) sponsor)
- Logo
- Recruit donors
- Supporters maintain! (Newsletters for donors)
Especially a website is very important. Many of our revenue comes from the awareness through our website. A good hosting party (do yourself a favor and do not go for free or very cheap operating budgets).
Often also the name of the Charity chosen whose domain is not busy. Then a good catchy logo design. Do not use too many colors, it will cost you a fortune on printing and is often less catchy!
Provide good, clear out radiation. Something recognizable. We can say from experience that it is advisable to design a box. It's really more revenue, so do not take this lightly.

I see what my response is late, but surely, these organizations! I like the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is a good example. They then turn professional at Micro banks lending to the poor.
They have a profit in the sense that the intention is to start a healthy business in various developing countries. The profit, however, for the most part (or whole) again used to improve existing businesses to grow, or in the case of microcredit interest rates for such borrowers to lower. it seems to me no problem. There's gene seed capital needed than save the cost of a notary, etc. If you do not pay the non-profit organization, and you get a ANBI status of the tax I do not see why it could not.

Our daughter has naturally some cases where it is very behind, that makes sense.
On Curacao is an institute with dolphins therapy to people with Down's syndrome.
It's incredible what these dolphins can do with these people.
They're going to talk and communicate better and even go after a few days to think better and differently.
Now we would like her to go to Curacao for two weeks so they can receive this therapy.
I have all added together and the costs amount to around 12,500 euros.

Let me first make clear that we ourselves are just a foundation, who like helping others with our own experiences. We are not professionals so any comments here are just personal experiences or personal advice! (Other people who read this are free to supplement or correct)
My personal advice would be no foundation to start. A foundation would be something for the long term and emotionally, this is not something we plan for a specified period to an x-amount is collected or a certain goal is reached, and then be shut down. Then there are the costs of such notary etc. This is a waste of money. Then even the registration at the Chamber of Commerce and thus the "curiosity" of the tax.
Personally I would choose a nice website with a PayPal account number and such. It is important to make this site known to friends, family, acquaintances and other interested parties.
